A great album from the legendary T-Bone Walker – a set issued right on the cusp of the 70s, at a time when Walker was starting to bring a nice current of funk into his music!

The debut album from accomplished and highly respected young jazz multi-instrumentalist Julius Rodriguez. Enrolled at Manhattan School of Music's pre-college division at age 12, he later went on to study at The Julliard School after which he became a member of Onyx Collective - a popular NYC jazz group who has collaborated with members of the Wu Tang Clan and toured with ASAP Rocky.

Heinrich Schütz comes from a family that was also wealthy in Chemnitz for centuries, to which the city fathers felt particularly attached. In 1619, the composer sent the city council a print of the Psalms of David, marked with his wedding date, after which he received a generous gift in return.

ATMA Classique and the Classica Festival are very pleased to present the most important lyrical project ever realized in Canada: a box set of 13 CDs of the complete melodies for voice and piano by the prolific French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912).

Artur Schnabel (1882-1951) was not only a gifted pianist, but also an accomplished composer who left behind three symphonies and five string quartets, among other works.

Friedrich Lux (1820–95) was one of the breed of musicians who bound together musical life in nineteenth-century Germany: though he worked away from the major cities, as conductor, teacher, organist, organiser and composer, he was an indispensable element of the communities in which he worked.

Alexander’s debut album, Sketches of Light, is a collection of twelve tracks for solo piano. They were composed over a seven year period and completed after Alexander moved, at the age of nineteen, to the north coast of Scotland.

Although Enescu gave opus numbers to only 33 of his works, he left an enormous number of pieces in varying stages of composition, from sketches and draft outlines to isolated movements and some scores that are almost complete. Working with a handful of composers and musicologists – fellow Romanians with specialist knowledge of Enescu’s style – the violinist Sherban Lupu has produced performing editions of a number of previously unknown works, heard here in the context of other Enescu rarities. One of these ‘rescued’ pieces, hiding behind the modest title of Caprice Roumain, is nothing less than a major violin concerto.

Recorded in Finland, in Järvenpää near Helsinki, this disc is a tribute to five extraordinary figures in Italian music: Gian Francesco Malipiero (1882-1973), Mario CastelnuovoTedesco (1895-1968), Luigi Dallapiccola (1904-1975), Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), and Nino Rota (1911-1979); five composers whose poetic universes, although very different from one another, are permeated by a common, intense expressiveness: the same trait that runs through the works featured here and that, like a fil rouge, has oriented Sanna Vaarni along his itinerary from 1916, the date of publication of Mario CastelnuovoTedesco’s Raggio verde, to 1964, the year of Nino Rota’s enchanting Preludi.

Alexander Glazunov was undoubtedly the most gifted Russian composer of his generation – that is to say, those born during the 1860s – and his profound musical aptitude led him to take full advantage of the educational facilities underpinning the burgeoning interest in the arts that grew exponentially in Russia during the second half of the 19th-century.

The present release is a mind-blowing rendition of a contemporary classic by amazing Ukrainian pianist, past winner of Van Cliburn competition. “Recordings usually start to live their own lives after their release. However, this one happened to be very special since it acquired its very meaning long before getting to the publishing phase. Recorded in September 2021, this project survived February 24, 2022 - the date marking for me the end of a fragile balance between humanity and medieval darkness. This recording is dedicated to the people of a free and independent Ukraine, whose unshakable spirit will never be defeated.”

Duo Kallos presents to the audience its first studio album entitled Conversations, which is a reference to the eponymous composition by Paul Patterson performed by the artists on this CD. In addition to Patterson's composition, on the album we will find the wonderful Sonata, Op. 28 by Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Three Miniatures for Clarinet and Piano by Krzysztof Penderecki and Krzysztof Grzybowski's original transcription of the Flute (Violin) Sonata, Op. 94 (bis) by Sergei Prokofiev.

For years, Margarita Höhenrieder was searching for the authentic sound of Frédéric Chopin's piano works. Which instrument of its time most convincingly reflected Chopin's music? Chopin himself had given the answer in 1831: "Pleyel's instruments are the nec plus ultra"! The choice for the recording therefore fell on a Pleyel fortepiano, built around 1855 in Paris and expertly restored using historical materials and methods. It is absolutely identical in construction to the instrument Chopin owned and thus represents an authentic sound testimony.
