Elgar’s unjustly neglected ‘greatest choral masterpiece’ (Jeremy Dibble) is given an outstanding new recording by conductor David Temple, Crouch End Festival Chorus, London Mozart Players, and soloists Francesca Chiejina, Dame Sarah Connolly, Benjamin Hulett and Ashley Riches. Composed in 1906 after The Dream of Gerontius and The Apostles, The Kingdom depicts the lives of Christ’s disciples and the community of the early church with a mixture of gentle conversational sections and astonishing dramatic passages. Recorded in the recently restored Victorian Theatre at Alexandra Palace, its fluid musical narrative is both arresting and profoundly moving. Echoing Sir Adrian Boult, David Temple considers the oratorio to be Elgar’s pinnacle achievement. ‘I truly believe The Kingdom to be Elgar’s greatest choral work. It is a gem from the first note to the last.’

Na twee ep’s te hebben uitgebracht, verscheen hun debuutalbum, ‘Who Can You Trust?’.

The 17 selections on this disc represent the earliest recordings by one of the most important and definitive jazz combos in history. These are interesting because Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond on alto sax had established the basic sound long before bassist Gene Wright and drummer Joe Morello would join them for the 'classic quartet' era. One other thing that is interesting is even though recording technology was relatively crude in the very early 1950s the sound quality on this album is more than acceptable.

Vienna Mandolin Stories is Alon Sariel's first full concerto album, inviting listeners on a journey through late-18th- and early-19th-century Vienna. The album features works for mandolin and orchestra by Haydn, Mozart, Krahmer, and Paisiello. While some pieces were originally composed for mandolin, others have been skillfully adapted by Sariel. The album thrives on Sariel's inventive and playful approach, as represented in "Haydn's Mandolin Concerto", an imaginative rearrangement combining movements from different concertos, including one by Malzat long misattributed to Haydn.

The Hollywood Years Vol. 1. Tangerine Dream has composed scores for dozens of films. The process of creating for the cinema always leaves the performer with loads of unused material. The Hollywood Years, Vol. 1 features unused soundtrack material composed and performed by Edgar Froese and Jerome Froese. (While they are credited with composing and performing, some of the material sounds very familiar, like it is from the lineup with Christopher Franke and Paul Haslinger.) Tangerine Dream's proliferation in this arena has yielded some excellent music that can stand on its own. It also has yielded, understandably, some uneven pieces and even some absolute losers. The Froeses handpicked this material and it is very good-to-excellent e-music…

EMI's Immersion Edition of The Wall offers a new remaster of the original album, a remaster of the previously released concert album Is There Anybody Out There: The Wall Live, a DVD containing a documentary among other visual highlights and, finally, two discs of demos from the band and the album's chief songwriter, Roger Waters. These demos are the true highlight of the box, and they've been arranged into seven separate programs, all arranged chronologically and tracing the development of the album from Waters' solo demos through relatively rough full-band run-throughs. The first Programme, running 22 tracks, is devoted to the original Waters solo demos and runs through the entire album in miniature, then the second Programme adds a few selections from the full band. These are quite subdued and slow, a clear outgrowth from the moody malevolence of Animals…

Justin Taylor has a passion for early keyboards and is always keen to match the works he tackles with the most appropriate historical instruments. Justin has always been fascinated by the music of Frederic Chopin, whose intimate musical world is presented here. We know that Chopin composed some of his preludes during his stay with George Sand in Mallorca, where he used a very special instrument. This was a Pleyel pianino – a small upright piano of six and a half octaves that was only made between 1835 and 1842 – with a beautiful natural resonance and a velvety timbre. Taylor has recorded the preludes composed on this Pleyel pianino along with a selection of etudes, nocturnes and mazurkas, all of which suit the sound of the instrument perfectly. A moving transcription of Bellini's Casta diva, an aria that Chopin much admired, is also included here.

Vincent Segal and Stéphane Kerecki, key figures on the Paris music scene for two decades, now present Ponticello, a project born of their impromptu meeting in the summer of 2022 and their desire to combine their instruments. Their duo, which they formed on the spur of the moment, quickly grew into an ambitious venture designed for the stage. Here the two musicians share their passion for jazz standards (Hampton Hawes, Scott LaFaro) and, through their own compositions, the great classics (Bach, Messiaen, Fauré), which blend classical, jazz, South American and American folk influences.

Released in the States by the small Janus label (with an updated cover), 1977's 'No Second Chance" was co-produced by Anderson and Thomas. Like the debut, the material was again largely written by Thomas and similarly managed to combine gorgeous group vocal harmonies with a hard rock sound that still had a distinctive commercial sheen. Propelled by Thomas' instantly recognizable growl, imagine a pub band like Ace deciding they liked rock guitar and you'll get a good feel for tracks like 'Johnny Hold Back', 'Pressure Point' and 'Guitar Hero'.

Saint Dominic's Preview is the sixth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released in July 1972 by Warner Bros. Records. Rolling Stone declared it "the best-produced, most ambitious Van Morrison record yet released." The diversity of the material on the album highlighted Morrison's fusing of Celtic folk, R&B, blues, jazz and the singer-songwriter genre. "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile)" and the title track were blends of soul and folk, while lesser known tracks such as "Gypsy" and "Redwood Tree" continued to display a lyrical celebration of nature's beauty. Also on the album were two lengthy tracks, "Listen to the Lion" and the closing "Almost Independence Day" which were given primal, cathartic and intense vocal performances from Morrison. These tracks were similar to the songs on his 1968 album, Astral Weeks.
