The album's musical material based on the use of chorale and hymn themes as a significant and fundamental element of world musical culture over the past few centuries, especially within the European musical tradition. In contrast, the pieces for the cello and piano strictly notated and require the most precise adherence to the written text.

The Promises of Darkness marks the next chapter in the visionary collaboration between Roger Reynolds and Mathias Reumert. This landmark album showcases world premiere recordings of four major works, tracing four decades of Reynolds’s trailblazing contributions to contemporary music. The title work, The Promises of Darkness (1975), pays homage to Reynolds’s mentor Roberto Gerhardt. Scored for an ensemble of 11 players, this piece masterfully conjures vivid colours and an almost cinematic sense of dread, revealing Reynolds as a composer unafraid to probe the edges of musical and emotional experience. This release follows the critically acclaimed Wind Concertos, the first in the Reynolds/Reumert series, which earned Album of the Year (The Five Best) from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in 2024.

Kullervo represents not only the confident first step in Sibelius's symphonic odyssey, it is also a viscerally exciting experience on its own terms. This is a wonderful collection of Spanish Baroque harpsichord music. Of course Scarlatti, who came from Italy, is the king. Igor Kipnis plays one of Scarlatti's single sonatas and the great triptych, K. 490- 92. He gives an object lesson in performing Scarlatti with imagination, virtuosity, taste, and ornamented repeats, the latter adding a great deal of interest to the music. José Nebra and Josep Soler aren't quite on Scarlatti's level, but the way Igor Kipnis plays their entertaining music is bound to hold your attention.

Underground psychedelic electric jazz-rock / improv sound with mellow folk-rock moves and homemade / basement atmosphere. Mostly instrumental with some cut-up vocal sounds and effects. A mix of self-penned songs and amazing cover versions of classics like “Summertime”, “Scarborough Fair” or “A Taste Of Honey” turned into hip, extended jams not so far away from the sound of the pioneering psychedelic ballroom bands from San Francisco. Electric & acoustic guitars, bass, drums, flute… Named after an old Detroit blues LP, Hasting’s Street Opera was formed in Montclair, New Jersey by a group of young friends (Harry Wellott, Gordon Carlisle, Don Hathaway and Chris Nelson) influenced by blues, rock, jazz and the eclectic sounds emanating from freeform / underground FM radio stations: Blues Project, Butterfield Blues Band, Miles Davies, Pharaoh Sanders, Jethro Tull…

Although Tangerine Dream is usually associated with synthesizers and the ambient movement that followed over a decade after such albums as Phaedra, Stratosfear, and Rubycon were recorded, Force Majeure shows the band displaying its roots in space rock. This time around, guitar and drums (played by Klaus Krieger) are as prominent as the keyboards. As the name would appear to indicate, the music on the album doesn't seem played so much as propelled forward, the overall pace rarely slackening for long. The title track is a suite that incorporates several distinct themes that segue into a cohesive whole via musical bridges. "Cloudburst Flight" is really an excuse for Edgar Froese to display his virtuosity on the electric six-string, which he does with amazing intensity…

Emil von Sauer and Conrad Ansorge had the privilege of studying under the legendary Franz Liszt, who preferred to be known as an advisor, rather than a teacher. Even so, their lessons with the world-famous composer/pianist influenced and developed both their individual styles and extraordinary abilities. This Capriccio recording presents two significant and unjustly forgotten piano concertos by these pupils of Liszt that reflect both their versatility and their deep understanding of musical form and structure.

In opera, the orchestra creates the subconscious, the backstory, and the soundscape of the drama. Brooding and dark, overwhelming and passionate, or edgy and biting, the orchestra's sound guides our imagination, and when released from its supporting role in the pit the result can be a thrilling experience of musical storytelling.

Having built a devoted following and one of Americana's proudest discographies, Jason Isbell, who has already recorded several live albums, delivers his solo acoustic tour de force. Foxes in the Snow is a quietly powerful set that proves his songwriting muse shows no signs of deserting him anytime soon. The rising lines of the chorus hook in "Eileen" are supported by his always sharp observations: "It ended like it always ends/ Somebody crying on the phone/ You tell each other you can still be friends/ But you both know you're on your own." Atop a sturdy melody Isbell seems to mix imagination with his publicly shared marital struggles ("And now that I live to see my melodies betray me/ I'm sorry the love songs all mean different things today") in "Gravelweed," whose choruses test the upper limits of his vocal range. There's nowhere for Isbell to hide on these tales, which lays bare his voice and guitar playing.
