The music of Michael Jarrell has been said to “examine states of dream and unreality, searching for a moment of truth” – a truth which is often found in the lowest sonorities and slowest tempi, a place where time stands still. His works are often interrelated, not only by a certain sensitivity or a distinctive tone, but also by the recurrence of particular features that he reworks in different contexts. The present disc combines two recent concertos, each of them performed by its dedicatee. In July 2019, three years after they gave the first performance of Émergences-Résurgences, Tabea Zimmermann rejoined l’Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire and Pascal Rophé in order to record the work.

Masayoshi Takanaka, is a Japanese guitarist, composer, and producer. He was born in 1953 in the Shinagawa ward in Tokyo, Japan. Takanaka's music was influential in the city pop genre of the late 1970s and '80s.

The survey by Jean-Efflam Bavouzet of Haydn’s piano sonatas reaches its conclusion with this eleventh volume. As in previous releases, the acclaimed pianist has mixed repertoire from different periods of Haydn’s career to create a recital of interest in its own right. Jean-Efflam notes: ‘It has been eleven years since the launch of this project to present Haydn’s sonatas, not in their chronological order, but as collections juxtaposing works from different periods. The programme for this final disc was actually the first one to be devised: I wanted to place side by side the very first and the very last sonata.

"Kylie" is the debut studio album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue, released on 4 July 1988 by Mushroom Records. Minogue had established herself as a child actress before signing to the record label in early 1987. The success of her debut single, "Locomotion", resulted in her working with Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who produced the album and wrote nine of its ten tracks. Their recording sessions, which started in September 1987 and took place in London and Melbourne, coincided with Minogue filming for the soap opera Neighbours. The album debuted at #2 on the UK Albums Chart on 16 July 1988. In its seventh week, it peaked at #1 and stayed there for four consecutive weeks.

PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED RADIO SESSIONS FROM THE CLASSIC IDLE RACE LINE-UP Formed from the ashes of Birmingham s Nightriders (formerly featuring Roy Wood) The Idle Race were christened sometime in early 1967. Well received by the music press for their melodies, whimsical lyrics, and inventive production, the band were championed too by DJs John Peel and Kenny Everett, but despite critical respect and famous admirers such as The Beatles and Marc Bolan, Idle Race failed to catch fire with the public. They did however release two classic albums and a raft of superb singles on Liberty while Jeff Lynne was a member, and a further LP in 1971 after he had left (ironically, to join Roy Wood in the Electric Light Orchestra.) The Idle race also recorded many radio sessions for John Peel s Top Gear programme on the newly formed Radio One, and this CD features seven such sessions recorded between 1967 and 1969. Including alternative versions of many of the group s most famous songs, plus a few cover versions (such as Marc Bolan s Debra and Frantic Desolation , originally composed and recorded by San Francisco s Sopwith Camel), the 19 tracks included form a quite extraordinary rarities collection of this oft-forgotten late-1960s act. Released here for the first time, this compilation will prove a delight for fans of Idle Race, of Jeff Lynne and of classic 1960s Beatlesque pop music in general.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band. They may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. Throughout the band's early records, frontman Ronnie Van Zant demonstrated a knack for lyrical detail and a down-to-earth honesty that had more in common with country than rock & roll. During the height of Skynyrd's popularity in the mid-'70s, they adopted a more muscular and gritty blues-rock sound that yielded the classic rock standards "Sweet Home Alabama," "Simple Man," "What's Your Name," "That Smell," "Gimme Three Steps," and "Free Bird." The group ceased operations after the tragic deaths of Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines, who were killed in an airplane crash on October 20, 1977.

100 Most Relaxing Classical Music in the Universe Review by Stephen Eddins
Listeners might quibble over whether the 100 pieces collected here constitute precisely THE most relaxing classical music in the whole universe, but it can't be denied that this music is in fact mellow and relaxing, except for perhaps the Prelude to Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, which might get the blood pumping at its climax. The pieces are all instrumental and the tracks are weighted toward orchestral music of the Baroque, Romantic, and post-Romantic periods, although the Classical and Modern periods aren't entirely neglected, and there is some chamber music and keyboard music. The performers tend not to be the most renowned, but the performances are entirely respectable and the sound quality is good. The album should appeal to listeners looking for a broad assortment of quietly lyrical pieces.

Speaking of his decision to release his solo album, Barrowman stated that it wasn't about launching a pop career, but about giving people a chance to see "Another Side" to him as an entertainer.
