Beyond Ultraviolet (2004). This is the fourth solo release on SFM from the UK's Ken Martin. "Beyond Ultraviolet" is a wonderful follow-up to his Berlin series released earlier. In addition to the analog synths like the Oberheim OB12, Ken is using some new analog modeling software like the Arturia Moog Modular V. In the tradition of classic electronic music we have another sonic voyage that is sure to tickle the listening ear of all lovers of Berlin style emusic. This recording can be played over and over again taking the listener on a sound trip that is sure to paint new worldly vistas in the mind. Ken Martin continues to create world class music putting him in the ranks with other electronic music masters.
Psychic Beacons (2005). At about 1 hour in length, "Psychic Beacons" is a recording for the sequence lover and the space music lover. It has Ken’s landmark sequencing sounds, mixing with textural space.

Between the earth and the stars, between ecological concerns and cosmic visions, Oiapok transcends the boundaries of progressive rock with future jazz sonorities. Oiapok’s music draws its inspiration from progressive rock, 70’s funk, film soundtracks and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The group is shaking conventions with its non standard instrumentation and its various influences.

Walter’s Mixed Bag is a journey through the imagination of one of Canada’s most outrageously bold composers, Walter Boudreau. Born in 1947, the prolific composer and conductor has composed more than fifty works that have been performed in Canada, the United States, and Europe. This deeply personal portrait includes a five-minute capsule of the history of music (Le Récital), a fifteen-minute account of the earth’s genesis performed by eight percussionists (Les Sept Jours), and excerpts from L’Asile de la pureté, a work completed in 2003. La Vie d’un héros is an epic tribute to his friend, composer Claude Vivier, whose tragic death in 1983 profoundly affected him.

Instituted over ten years ago, the Prix Québec-Flandre is awarded in recognition of a talented contemporary music composer or performer active in either cultural communities. It is the result of a partnership between the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), the Vooruit Cultural Centre, various government sponsors from both sides of the Atlantic, and the Société Radio-Canada. Through this award, the Quebec and Flemish governments are able to showcase the talents of avant-garde musical artists at the international level, and to encourage exchange between concert producers and performers and composers.

Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers are rightly considered to be one of the greatest monuments of Baroque church music. Stephen Stubbs, with the ensembles Tragicomedia and Concerto Palatino, along with a group of top-notch singers, began to perform the Vespers on a yearly basis at the Pieterskerk in Leiden in 1998. The event developed into a musical capella, something like what Monteverdi must have had at St. Mark’s. The beautiful acoustics of the Pieterskerk, the inspirational "voice" of the great organ there, but most of all the warm atmosphere of a yearly “family” event that included both the musicians and the staff and visitors of the church have created what one might be tempted to call the "Leiden Vespers." This is the wonderful experience that has been captured on this exhilarating CD.
