Media Vita, the title of this album, takes up that of the piece for mixed choir that I wrote in 2010 at the request of the dancer and choreographer Julien Lestel for his ballet Body and Souls.

The piano is perhaps better suited than any other instrument to evoke the sound of bells – evening bells, bells of farewell and of joy, funereal bells, bells with spiritual overtones – and late-Romantic and twentieth-century French and Russian composers in particular have responded to the challenge of capturing those sonorities at the keyboard.

I can't find the words that convey the feelings that emerge from the presence of a great player. It happens once in a while and now is one of those times…

André Raison’s (1650-1719) biographical facts are so scattered, and they teach us so few about him, that he remains for us a quite poorly known musician: a hypothetical date of birth, a rather imprecise date of death, 1719, and a few pieces of information related to his education as well as his main positions – organist to the grand couvent et collège des Jacobins of rue Saint Jacques, and subsequently, to the “Royal” abbey of Sainte Geneviève du Mont where he had previously studied. We also know that Louis- Nicolas Clérambault, who dedicated to him his first and only organ works book in 1714 (date of publication as well of Raison’s second book), was his student.

The band’s first album for a major label will come out on September 16 via Big Machine, and follows the release of new single ‘Roadkill’ last month.

On 7th February 1857, after a delay of one year due to problems of copyright on a possible production of King Lear, Verdi accepted and signed a new agreement with the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples for an opera to be staged in January or February 1858. Not long after he had put behind the experiences of Simon Boccanegra (June 1857) and Aroldo (August), Verdi, then, had to face the issue of a new subject for Naples, which would no longer be King Lear, discarded for various reasons, and not even El tesorero del Rey by António García Gutiérrez or Ruy Blas by Hugo, to which he had given more serious thought, but Gustave III by Eugène Scribe, a play written in 1833 for Daniel Auber in which the king of Sweden is assassinated, in 1792, by a group of noblemen led by Jacob Ankarström.

July of 2021 found John Patitucci on tour in Italy with Chris Potter on saxophones and Brian Blade on drums. Patitucci says, “The tour in 2021 in Italy was an incredible experience with my two dear friends, who happen to be some of the greatest musicians in the history of jazz music. The tour was organized by Alex Travi, who had the idea that we should bring someone to record live at some point during the tour. All the tracks, with the exception of Without a Song, were recorded in Genova, Italy on July 22, 2021. Without a Song was recorded on July 24, 2021 in Alba, Italy.”

Eros Ramazzotti An international superstar whose appeal spans not only Western Europe but also Latin America, Eros Ramazzotti is a best-selling Italian singer/songwriter with a distinctive voice and a wide-ranging pop/rock style that encompasses everything from adult contemporary to classical crossover. With his sometimes gritty, reedy tenor and an earnest approach, he initially established himself as a chart-topping twentysomething pop star in the mid-1980s with songs like "Una Storia Importante" and "Adesso Tu."

These three compositions by three Portuguese composers pay direct and indirect tribute to the music of Beethoven. The Piano Quintet by João Domingos Bomtempo was written in the style of the Viennese Classical mainstream even as Beethoven was changing its direction. The two works by César Viana and Jaime Reis both have distant roots in Beethoven but pay their homage in very different styles, one using relatively traditional language and the other more radical – as was Beethoven himself, of course.

Giuseppe Clemente Dall'Abaco (1710-1805), son of the composer Evariso Dall'Abaco, learned to play the cello as a child. Raised in Munich, he found employment at the court of the Elector of Cologne as early as 1729 and embarked on a fascinating musical career that made him famous in London, Paris and Vienna, among other places, and even features several "eventful" episodes. French grace, German thoroughness and Italian joy of virtuosity meet in his magnificent sonatas and duos for violoncello, some of which are recorded here for the first time.

The repertoire of this CD guides us elegantly through all of these themes with an abundance and liveliness that only active music listening can give us. The following paragraphs are intended to provide background information and to narrate stories about the composers who enhanced music during the first decades of the Enlightenment – without striving to replace the live musical experience.
