Carmen Souza celebrates the life and music of emblematic pianist Horace Silver in her new album ‘The Silver Messengers’. After critically acclaimed versions of 'Song for my father' or 'Cape Verdean Blues', in her previous cd´s, she channels the common African heritage to shed a new light into Silver´s repertoire. Most compositions on the album are by the great American master but Carmen Souza totally reclaims them, in her inimitable style, full of energy, humour… and crazy creativity - the very symbol, or synonym, of jazz!

During the last months of 2014 it was decided that we had to contact one of the artists we admire most, the fantastic Dutch fortepianist Bart van Oort, and offer him (nearly beg him, we first thought) to agree to do some projects for Cantus. Repertory? Carte blanche, the one he wanted. When? When he felt ready. His answer was almost immediate: “I don’t want to just make an isolated record, I prefer that we do a project that takes us several years.

Flume has doled out another collection of remixes from his most recent studio album, Palaces. This pack contains five remixes from a well-rounded selection of distinctly talented artists.

Earlier this year, Flume issued his latest full-length Palaces. Now, the Australian producer has released the first string of reworks for a remix version of the LP. The record includes an update on the title track from London duo Mount Kimbie and Detroit rapper Zelooperz (both the original and remixed editions feature additional vocals from Damon Albarn).

At the Half Note Cafe is a live album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd recorded in 1960 at the Half Note in Manhattan and released on the Blue Note label originally as two single LP issues (BLP 4060 and BLP 4061). he Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4½ stars and stated "This was a hot quintet, one that not only swung hard, but possessed a deep lyricism and an astonishing sense of timing, and one need only this set by them to feel the full measure of their worth".

Re-teaming with The Sound of Madness producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Kid Rock) - Shinedown's fourth full-length album - is the bruising, unapologetic, and totally kinetic "Amaryllis". Six songs on album feature a 30-piece orchestra, including "I'm Not All Right" - Shinedown's first-ever song to incorporate horns, which drive home the manic intensity of its subject matter. Another highlight is "Bully", which finds Smith addressing the tormentor in question in the strongest possible terms.

"Threat to Survival" is the fifth studio album by American rock band Shinedown. All four of their previous studio albums have gone either gold or platinum, and their latest effort, "Threat To Survival", appears headed down that same path. The incredibly catchy lead single “Cut the Cord” has already climbed to No. 1 on the rock singles chart, and there are definitely a few more potential hits in the offing. And again VH's David Lee Roth era… For these 2015 Remastered Releases, Van Halen enlisted the help of mastering enginer Chris Bellman, who remastered the original albums for Bernie Grundman Studios, Hollywood, CA. The remasters have been cut straight from the original quarter-inch tapes.

If you are wondering what prompted an organist and a percusion/marimba/vibraphone player to journey to Iceland to make a recording with improvised music and a special arrangement of Maurice Ravel´s Bolero, then perhaps the word inspiration could be the most succinct answer. It is this which gives rise to the expression "inspired performance" which can certainly be applied to this recording.

This Hyperion's release reaches Belgium and the music of Joseph Jongen, a composer more celebrated for his organ music now, but who was equally admired in his day for his orchestral and chamber works. On this new album Philippe Graffin collaborates with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and Martyn Brabbins in Jongen's Violin Concerto, one of the composer's first substantial works. Also included are other works for violin and orchestra, and a Rapsodie by Italian Romantic Sylvio Lazzari who was influenced - as was Jongen - by the music of Cesar Franck.

"Mi Mundo" introduces a shining new star on the world music firmament. This is the solo debut of Brenda Navarrete, a Cuban-based singer, songwriter, percussionist and bandleader of rare skill and musical originality. The stylistically eclectic album features a variety of group settings, with the primary instruments consisting of drums, piano, electric bass and percussion, including bata and congas played by Navarrete. The Cuban musical cast includes drummers Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Rodney Barreto, José Carlos, pianists Roberto Carcassés, Rolando Luna and Leonardo Ledesman, bassist Alain Perez, trombonist Eduardo Sandoval, and Adonis Panter on Quinto drums.

The Revenant is a story of loss, revenge and resilience in the face of impossible odds against the furies of man and nature itself. The film is heavily favored to be a critical darling as awards season gets under way. Director Iñárritu has chosen to forgo almost all dialogue in favor of a gorgeous soundscape and a sweeping score. A film of this magnitude deserves a composer who understands creative artistry and unbridled passion. Japanese master and Oscar winner Ryuichi Sakamoto (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, The Last Emperor) fits the bill perfectly. Along with fellow Yellow Magic Orchestra member and frequent collaborator Alva Noto, Sakamoto has created a gripping soundtrack that is sure to be a treat for the winter crowds. Bryce Dessner (writer for Kronos Quartet and the LA Phil) also supplies additional music.

Wilhelm Fitzenhagen was a German cellist, composer and instructor, best known today as the dedicatee of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo theme. This release features his two triumphant concertos alongside several other original works, and his (in)famous version of the Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations all performed by one of today's great German virtuosos, Alban Gerhardt.

The first concert streamed live in DSD from the US, Walk The Sky captures a historic concert from vocalist Jenna Mammina and guitarist Alex de Grassi. Both extremely talented musicians in their own right, together Jenna and Alex created something more than just the sum of their parts. Alex’s fingers effortlessly blend dense jazz harmonies with rugged blues licks on “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” and Jenna channels her own pain (from learning of Prince's death hours before we went live) into a cover of "King of Pain" by The Police. Originally broadcast in DSD128, Walk The Sky was recorded to DSD256 at Skywalker Sound by Leslie Ann Jones and Cookie Marenco then mixed using our proprietary analog stage methods at Blue Coast Studios to DSD256.
