Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more modest-sized creation chock full of superb songs that are produced even better.

Clearly, ELO was a progressive band, although most people never looked upon them as that because of their long run on the pop charts.

SYMPHONIC MASTERPIECE
In 1974, I read a very good review in a local magazine of which six pages or so a week were dedicated to rock music (merci Télémoustique et Piero).

In my opinion, On the Third Day is the best album by ELO during their early progressive rock period. Even though this album started showing signs of Lynne's movement towards more radio-friendly material and simpler song structures, it still has masterpiece written all over it.

A trumpet, a guitar and a bass. The absence of the battery immediately brings to mind the last Chet Baker, a chamber size, intimate and sensual. The music was "photographed" in the wonderful acoustics of the theater "Persius Flaccus" of Volterra, waiting for the bells of the five ceased, or that the thunder of a storm at the end of summer subside.

Jennifer Hudson was driving when she found out that she’d be playing Grizabella in director Tom Hooper’s film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic stage musical Cats, which premiered on Broadway in 1982. “I had to pull over in a parking lot when I got the call,” she tells Apple Music. “And I was like, yes! But then I said, ‘Oh my god. That means I have to sing “Memory.”’” Hudson, of course, rises to the occasion: Her stunning vocal range breathes new life into the tousled Jellicle cat on the show’s best-known song. She joins an all-star cast of performers vying to ascend to the Heaviside layer through song and dance.

Created with the same technology available at the time of the Apollo 11 mission, this score make it feel like the events in the documentary are happening for the first time. This is an excellent Moog-centric tribute to the mission and the era.
