One of the last of the original wave of English punk from the late 70s, Penetration soared above the pack courtesy of the tough but tender vocals of frontwoman Pauline Murray and a willingness to experiment with pop song forms that could sometimes put them over on the “new wave” side of the fence. Thirty years after their heyday, this two-show collection spotlights the band at their very best. The second show, a 1979 gig in Newcastle, is the very one at which Murray announced their all-too-soon breakup. Classics like “Don’t Dictate” and “Money Talks” are represented in both shows.
