Country Music Hall of Famer, five-time Grammy-winner, and AMA Lifetime Achievement honoree Marty Stuart picks up where he left off on Altitude, his first new album in five years, exploring a cosmic country landscape populated by dreamers and drifters, misfits and angels, honky-tonk heroes and lonesome lovers.

For this recording I have selected challenging compositions by four female composers from a single generation but with very different life stories. The works are similar in temperament and are filled with lightness and exuberance.

The Murlocs had visions of creating a quintessential country-rock record when they begin recording their 7th LP - a collection of sublimely mellowed-out songs inspired by iconic albums like Sweetheart of the Rodeo and Exile on Main St - but the record soon took on its own unruly character. His last String Quartet in G major, D. 887 veers between a profound examination of personal trauma and a blazing triumph over adversity, and it is this resilience of spirit which is further highlighted by songs such as ‘An die Musik’ and ‘Lebensmuth’, pieces that courageously embrace life and all the beauty it offers.

Liya Petrova presents here the first instalment of a double diptych, featuring two rarely recorded works: Walton’s Violin Concerto (1938) with a prestigious British orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Duncan Ward, and Respighi’s Violin Sonata (1917) with her regular keyboard partner Adam Laloum. The shimmering harmonic palette and the vigorously phrased lyricism of these two works respond almost instinctively to each other and make them a natural coupling.
