German violinist, born 1934 in Reichenberg/Liberec (Northern Bohemia). He's the father of Conrad Suske.
In the 1950s he became he became first concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and member of the Gewandhaus Quartet. From 1962 to 1977 he was first concertmaster at the Staatsoper in Berlin, before returning to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. He was also leader of the Suske Quartet founded in 1965 (later Berlin String Quartet).

Kent Nagano leads the Montreal Symphony Orchestra on this album of Beethoven symphonies, the final volume of their project to record the complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies. Nagano calls these two symphonies "peculiar retreats" from the composer's other symphonic works.

When Maurice Ravel in 1909 was commissioned by the ballet impresario Serge Diaghilev to write a score based on the ancient Greek novel Daphnis and Chloe, he decided to compose 'a huge musical fresco, concerned less with archaism than with faithfulness to the Greece of my dreams'. Three years later, when Daphnis et Chloé was first performed by the Ballets Russes, it had indeed grown into Ravel’s longest work, playing for about an hour and requiring a large orchestra with an extended percussion section, not to mention a choir.
