Le printemps (publié en 1603) de Le Jeune — sur des textes de Jean-Antoine de Baïf (1532-1589) qui cherche à appliquer à la langue française les qualités métriques de la poésie de l'Antiquité — est le recueil le plus célèbre de "chansons mesurées à l'antique" dans lesquelles les syllabes longues et courtes des paroles sont rigoureusement assignées aux notes blanches et noires de la musique, créant une intéressante asymétrie rythmique.
