Maryla Jonas, Polish-born concert pianist, made her debut as a child prodigy in Warsaw at the age of 9 and became a pupil of Ignacy Jan Paderewski. She won an International Chopin Prize in 1922 and the Beethoven Prize of Vienna the next year. She was in bombed-out Warsaw when it was captured by the Nazis, but escaped in 1940, a feat that was described later as "miraculous." Walking day and night, she traveled 325 miles to the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin. From there, Jonas went to Rio de Janeiro, where her married sister, Mrs. Bertha Holin, then lived, and entered a sanitarium.

After her widely acclaimed first Haydn recording, the Israeli pianist Yaara Tal, known as one half of the unique international piano duo Tal & Groethuysen, is now presenting her second solo album.

"The appeal lies in hearing familiar music in a new and different light. People intuitively associate the sound of the accordion with musettes, tangos and folk music, with the result that Haydn's music is now heard as part of an unusual sound picture. First and foremost, however, I want to convey the message of this music, and my means of doing so – possibly fortuitously – is the accordion. My recording is intended to delight the listeners, very much in the spirit of Haydn's remark that "What comes from the heart goes to the heart"."

The piano duo Tal & Groethuysen has thrilled classical music audiences for more than 30 years. They have received innumerable accolades worldwide for their recordings with Sony Classical, including five ECHO Klassik Music Awards, nine German Record Critics' Prizes, and the Cannes Classical Award.

If this album of iconic pieces for oboe has been a long-standing project for Hélène Devilleneuve - super soliste de l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France - it is because of the particularly strong ties that she has with each one of them. From Bozza and his shimmering harmonies to the more obscure composer Destenay, of which this is the first French recording, each of these works show the warmth and light in the sound of the oboe.

Benjamin Appl won Gramophone “Young Artist of the Year 2016”. He is a former chorister of the famous Regensburger Domspatzen, Appl is now one of the most interesting artists of the new generation, with a great voice, charming personality and great stage presence.

Sebastian Bohren plays concertos of Mendelssohn, Schubert, Respighi, and Hartmann Mendelssohn’s long-forgotten “little” violin concerto, presented in con- cert for the first time in 1952 by Yehudi Menuhin, was composed in 1822 – a year when the thirteen-year-old would write a total of twelve works. The young Mendelssohn is remarkable not only for his prodigious talent, but also for his extraordinary eagerness to learn. Eduard Devrient, the man of the theater who heard him play at his parents’ home, offers a vi- vid description of his humility: “We quickly noticed that the boy had very little personal vanity, and that his desire to learn, experience, try things out, and make progress for its own sake was most important to him by far.”
