When John Coltrane performed in 1963 at Penn State University, it was with the group that is now considered his most "classic" group: the quartet featuring McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. Featuring an epic, 25-minute long "Bye Bye Blackbird", among other early '60s originals and covers, this is the sound of an artist coming into his own and truly shining.
