Using custom re-fretted guitars, Mak Grgic revolutionizes the standard repertoire with Renaissance & Baroque historical tunings, and premiering newly commissioned works that explore notes that have, quite simply, never been heard on the guitar before.

Of the two large piano sonatas composed by Charles Ives, No. 2 (’the Concord Sonata’) is by far the best-known, overshadowing its sibling. The First Piano Sonata is comparably ambitious, however, and with a playing time of more than 40 minutes, similarly expansive. Like many works by Ives it had a long gestation period, beginning in 1901 with additions and revisions being made well into the 1920s.

The new recording from percussionist Joby Burgess includes ambient electronics fused with mellow vibraphone, explosive cinematic drumming and the delicate muted sounds of 1960’s New York.

Jazz trumpeter Willie Bradley is a GRAMMY-nominated artist and has been a featured instrumentalist with some of the mot influential jazz musicians of all-time, including Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Frank Foster, Max Roach, Betty Carter, Gerald Albright, Walter Beasley, Alex Bugnon, Ronnie Laws, Hiroshima and Marion Meadows.

Witold Maliszewski was a prolific Polish composer who is remembered not only for his compositional oeuvre, but also his contribution to education- he was a founder of Odessa Conservatory and a professor at Warsaw Conservatory. Students of Maliszewski include Witold Lutoslawski, Mykola Vililnsky, Shimon Shteynberg, and Boleslaw Woytowicz. His style was largely shaped by Russian musical traditions. His symphonies are non-programmatic, and only the Fourth Symphony in D major contains any trace of traditional Polish music.

Many jazz enthusiasts find guitarist Tim Langedijk a breath of fresh air. He is not a man who desires to show off his virtuosity to his audience at any given moment. Langedijk (26) likes beautiful melodic lines and subtle harmonies and he also searches for intriguing and adventurous soundscapes.

This release follows on from Priory occasional series featuring the music of J.S.Bach. Previous releases have highlighted the playing of this composer on an English cathedral organ and not an instrument of his time. This splendid organ is not in this category and is a new instrument by the firm of Wegscheider and is in complete contrast to the more famous Klais organ at the west end of the Minster.

The Alabama native co-wrote each track on the new set, which also features writers Randy Montana, Bobby Pinson, Jonathan Singleton, Thomas Rhett, and more.
