Writer and historian Dr Helen Castor explores the life - and death - of Joan of Arc. Joan was an extraordinary figure - a female warrior in an age that believed women couldn't fight, let alone lead an army. Since her death, Joan has become an icon for almost everyone - the left and the right, Catholics and Protestants, traditionalists and feminists. But where in all of this is the real Joan - the experiences of a teenage peasant girl who achieved the seemingly impossible? Through an astonishing manuscript, we can hear Joan's own words at her trial, and as Helen unpicks Joan's story and places her back in the world that she inhabited, the real human Joan emerges.

During the Nazi occupation of Poland, a generation of youth comes of age. Stach and his friends start with spontaneous acts of defiance, which can prove deadly, but have no organized purpose. Then, while at work as an apprentice, Stach learns elementary Marxian economics from a shop steward. When he sees the valiant and beautiful Dorota, a leader of the Youth Underground, he volunteers. He recruits his friends, and they become a cell in the resistance, tasting courage, discipline, and tragedy. In the background lies the potential conflict between the Communists and the partisans, both anti-Nazi, both Polish, and on their own collision course.

At the end of WWII the Allies declared the Nazi party a criminal organization, and pledged to prosecute and punish the architects and triggermen of genocide. It was an ambitious pledge: several hundred thousand Gestapo, SS, and Wehrmacht forces had engaged in war crimes and atrocities against civilians. But only a few thousand Nazi criminals and collaborators were convicted at the Nuremberg trials. This paled with the legions who evaded prosecution by concealing their war records, assuming false identities, fleeing Europe, or serving Allied governments as spies or scientists. In the absence of an international manhunt and centralized prosecution, the task of bringing Nazi criminals to justice was undertaken by a handful of individuals-acting without official status or government support. These so-called Nazi hunters collectively identified and brought to justice thousands of Nazi criminals. In the process, the Nazi hunters gave a measure of dignity to the dead and reminded.

A guy, Robert O' Neil, with a fancy sports car goes out for some fun with his 18-year old girlfriend (who happens to be a virgin). That's when they are attacked by a bunch of Nazi-bikers who beat them and rape the girl. O' Neil calls a friend of him, a martial arts teacher, for help. The same night, the teacher and his students attack the bikers and castrate their leader. A circle of vengeance has begun…

In this light romantic comedy, 17-year old Loretta Young is cast as Ann Harper, a wealthy socialite who has inherited a fortune provided the family is involved in no scandals appearing in print, and her two aunts and uncle consent to the marriage. Put off by all this, she is determined to cause a scandal so that none of the family will receive any of the inheritance. An arrow-straight Fairbanks is volunteered to be the one to "compromise" her, but the two end up falling for each other. Upon being discovered in Loretta's boudoir, Fairbanks makes a hasty exit out of the nearest window. The romance seems destined to fail, but Fairbanks (and his two friends) have other ideas, which are accidentally "aided" by the two prudish aunts.

With the size of her classes dwindling each year, Newton High music teacher Malvina Adams is asked to retire. Trying to prove she's still got it, she composes a school fight song which finds its way into the hands of bandleader Bob Crosby who turns it into an overnight hit. Over the protestations of her stuffy niece Abby, Malvina travels to New York and performs her song with Bob's band and becomes even more popular. The newness of the song fades quickly though, and, faced with becoming a flash-in-the-pan, Malvina tries to write one last hit song before giving up and returning to Newton.

A somewhat prim and proper Englishman is hired as the tutor to the son of the Japanese ambassador.

Judge Hardy takes a business trip to Washington, DC, where Andy promptly falls for the French ambassador's daughter.

A remake of Robert Montgomery's 1934 hit Hide-Out, this superb film directed by Robert B. Sinclair (known for his classic Broadway productions of The Philadelphia Story, Dodsworth and Pride and Prejudice) creates a mesmerizing dance between innocence and a life gone wrong.
