Madoca Kawahara a.k.a. MADOCA [pronounced “ma du ka”] is a Japanese American producer, pianist/ keyboardist/ composer. Her style consists of contemporary/ classic jazz, fusion, soul, funk, Latin and Salsa blended together to provide sustenance for your mind and soul & relaxing instrumental experience. "Lumen Drones" is a fascinating and powerful collaboration between Hardanger fiddle master Nils Økland and Per Stainar Lie and Ørjan Haaland, respectively guitarist and drummer with Norwegian ‘post-rock’ group The Low Frequency In Stereo. The participants describe their project as a psychedelic drone band, but its stylistic reach is broad and evocative and will trigger many musical associations. Specific influences include the Doors, Sonic Youth, Durutti Column and “the jazz of the Dave Pike set”, but the Lumen Drones also rove through modal, ambient, multi-folk, minimal and noise zones, making exciting music all the way.

In 2019, a year before the onset of the pandemic and three years before the full-scale war in Ukraine broke out, we released Illuminated Silence. This was the first album of a new trio consisting of the young Japanese-born, Irish-based pianist and composer Izumi Kimura and the greats of the improvised music world Barry Guy and Gerry Hemingway. The album was very much liked by listeners and I heard from many of them the question whether there is a chance that this formation will survive, because if the band debuts with such a great album, what will happen when it becomes a working band? Today, five years later we know well that the trio Kimura / Guy / Hemingway is working and bringing a new recording, this time a studio recording made in mid-December of 2023. It is with great pride that we place it in your hands - Six Hands Open As One.

On their newest recording for Glossa, Graindelavoix and Bjorn Schmelzer present a fascinating array of Renaissance motets based on the theological concept of creatio ex nihilo, creation out of nothing, as exemplifed in the mystery of the Incarnation, the idea of God becoming a man. Well- known pieces like Josquin Desprez's Praeter rerum seriem are combined with less famous works by the same composer, and very fne contributions by Obrecht, Ockeghem, Ribera and Wert. Bjorn Schmelzer bases his intriguing approach to the performance of these pieces on a 1561 quote by the Flemish Protestant pedagogue Johannes Molanus: "[Mensural polyphony] is a singing without sense or content, in which the voices are resounding emptily in so-called proses, motets, and artifcial songs in foreign languages, ornamented for the delectation of the ears, which have no meaning that could be understood even by the singers themselves."
