The musical partnership of violinist Enrico Gatti and harpsichordist Rinaldo Alessandrini now goes back a number of decades to when this pair of Italians, both with a voracious appetite for early music, were setting out on their careers. The years pass and both artists make fabulous recordings, often directing their own ensembles.

In the folk tradition: The Duo Ausma – comprising Vizma Zvaigzne (mezzo-soprano) and Theduardo Prasetyo (guitar) – interprets songs by Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, and Xavier Montsalvatge on their new GENUIN album in their unique way. The two musicians explore the boundaries of the concept of "homeland": In the songs of the great Catalan composer Montsalvatge, who mixes Caribbean sounds with the music of his homeland and the tonal languages of the 20th century, as well as in those of Schubert. The early Romantic treasures of the latter, accompanied by guitars, take on an unusual color, evoking the intimacy of the Viennese Schubertiades in our mind's eye.

Navona Records and trombonist Andy Malloy present BEST OF FRIENDS, a collection of personalized pieces for trombone and piano. Featuring works that Malloy commissioned from his colleagues over the years, the album is truly an ode to the relationships formed through musical collaboration. Each piece on the album pushes the musical boundaries to which the trombone is often held through creative uses of tonality and soaring melodies. Johann Wilhelm Hertel is one of the lesser-known composers of the late baroque and early classical era. Born in Eisenach in 1727, as a young man he travelled to the north of Germany with his father, who was a viola da gamba virtuoso engaged as a Kapellmeister at the court of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Already as a young man Johann Wilhelm showed a remarkable talent for music. He excelled on the harpsichord and violin, but his father wanted him to additionally study law.

On their third album, Bokanté have plugged into the blues, tracing the genre's roots in West Africa and the Arab world through the diaspora into the retro-modern present. These nine tracks tell — with lyrics sung mainly in Guadeloupean Creole — of outsiders and seers, memories and joy; of black history, global unity and the futility of war.
