THE BABY HUEY STORY: THE LIVING LEGEND is an audiophile necessity. Recorded in 1970, it is the only solo album by James "Baby Huey" Ramey. After his untimely death at the age of 26, Curtis Mayfield finished the production of the record and released it via his Curtom Records label in 1971. With tracks like "Hard Times," which has been sampled by A Tribe Called Quest and Ice Cube, and gorgeous covers of "A Change Is Going To Come" and "California Dreamin'," this album has become a cult classic among hip-hop and soul fans alike. Her last album, which was also her final entry released via Dr. Luke’s imprint, found the party girl toning everything down and trying out folk, gospel, country and acoustic elements. But Period is a whiplash back to Kesha 1.0. "You want kids/ Well, I am mother," she sings on "JOYRIDE.," reminding us all that she is the original brat, years before Charli XCX (who paid homage by featuring Kesha on her "Spring breakers" remix). But their connection, at least as it manifests here, is more spiritual than sonic.

"To celebrate Tucker’s phoenix-like rise from the ashes, Big Potato are issuing a new unheard collection of his material titled Music By River Words By Ear, consisting of songs recorded with fellow forgotten legend Dave Evans and Tucker’s son Quanah on guitar and Geert Waegman on fiddle and Jef van Cool on bass. Recorded in 2002, these timeless tunes mark the first chapter of Zimmerman in the 21st century.
