A debut like no other; an Australian masterpiece! The iconic debut album by Skyhooks turns 50 in 2024 and to celebrate Warner Music Australia are releasing a special remastered 50th anniversary edition.

Living in the 70's is the debut album by Melbourne band Skyhooks. Released in October 1974 on the Mushroom Records label, the album achieved relatively little success until early 1975. It spent 16 weeks at the top of the Australian album charts from late February 1975, and became the highest-selling album by an Australian act in Australia until that time, with sales of over 330,000. In October 2010, it was listed at No. 9 in the book 100 Best Australian Albums. The album's eponymous track was ranked number 72 as part of Triple M's "Ozzest 100", the 'most Australian' songs of all time ranking.

There is an argument that Australian rock would not exist in it's present form without the success of Skyhooks. Not only did the band, with their huge singles and albums success, ensure the continuing viability of Mushroom Records but they taught Australians that it was possible to be both alternative and popular and that it was OK to sing about local places and experiences. The importance of songs like 'Balwyn Calling' and 'Toorak Cowboy' should never be underestimated. Add to this the fact that 'You Just Like Me Cos I'm Good in Bed' was the first song ever played on Double J (now Triple J) and it is easy to see that Skyhooks were in the centre of major changes in the local record industry. Living in the 70s was a true landmark album. It stayed in the Australian Top 40 for an incredible 40 weeks, yielded the chart topping 'Horror Movies' single, and, amusingly, was so revolutionary and provocative that six of the ten tracks were banned from radio by the Federation of Australian Commercial Broadcasters.
