The Seventh Symphony gave Bruckner a breakthrough to international recognition: the Leipzig premiere on December 30, 1884 was followed by the acclaimed Munich performance of March 10, 1885, which initiated the worldwide triumphal march of the work. The Adagio, the second movement, is dedicated to the memory of Richard Wagner, whose death Bruckner learned about during the composition.

The Munich Philharmonic has probably performed more concerts of Anton Bruckner's music than any other orchestra. The orchestra's extensive archive contains numerous recordings of Anton Bruckner's symphonies conducted by the most outstanding conductors such as Sergiu Celibidache, Christian Thielemann, Rudolf Kempe, Günter Wand and Oswald Kabasta.

Anton Bruckner was undoubtedly Sergiu Celibidache's favorite composer and with the Munich Philharmonic, the great maestro had created the perfect orchestra for his musical performances. The 200th. The label MPHIL is therefore celebrating Anton Bruckner's birthday on September 4, 2024 with two very special releases: With Symphonies No. 7 & 8 from the years 1984 and 1985, historical and previously unpublished recordings from the Herkulessaal of the Residenz, two real rarities were lifted from the orchestra's extensive archive and remastered in an elaborate process.
