Die 'frische und lebendige' Einspielung des Kölner Alte-Musik Ensembles Compagnia di Punto mit Kammermusikwerken Antonio Rosettis für dhm wurde von der Presse für ihr 'hohes künstlerisches Niveau' (NDR) gelobt. Für seine neue CD hat das Ensemble nun die letzten unentdeckten sinfonischen Schätze des in Böhmen geborenen Komponisten ausgewählt, der zu den berühmtesten seiner Zeit gehörte.

Johannes Matthias Sperger was born in Feldsberg in 1750 and trained in Vienna as a contrabassist and composer from 1767. He worked from 1777 in the Hofkapelle of the Archbishop of Pressburg. From 1778 he was also a member in the Wiener Tonkünstlersozietät, in whose concerts he appeared several times with his own works and as soloist. From 1783 to 1786, Sperger was a member of the Hofkapelle of count Ludwig von Erdödy in Kohfidisch. From 1789 he was employed as first contrabassist of the Mecklenburg Schwerin Hofkapelle in Ludwigslust.

Standing at the west end of Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard, the Chateau Marmont hotel has seen many a famous and infamous guest pass through its doors since it opened in 1929. A 2012 stay in one of its second-floor rooms inspired British lyricist and singer Jarvis Cocker to look into its history and led to this collaborative project with multi-faceted Canadian pianist and composer Chilly Gonzales. Room 29, a 21st-century song cycle, is set for release on Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, on 17 March. Gonzales’ score and Cocker’s lyrics conjure up the lives of some of Room 29’s previous occupants, as well as shining a light on the glittering fantasy and often bleak reality of Hollywood.

Zwei »Salzburger Klavierkonzerte« hat er mit dem Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg unter Mozart-Spezialist Ivor Bolten eingespielt: das erste Klavierkonzert KV 37 des 10-jährigen Mozart (von 1766) und das lange als »Jeunehomme« bekannte Klavierkonzert Nr. 9, KV 271, welches 10 Jahre später entstand und als erstes Meister-Konzert gilt. Für beide Konzerte schrieb Stadtfelld neue Kadenzen.

On his second release for Sony Classical, Erwin Schrott transfers many of his stage triumphs to an album of arias. Although it is a must to include one of his showpiece arias from Mozart’s Don Giovanni on the recording, for the most part Schrott has devoted this album to classics from the French and Italian bass-baritone repertoire, complementing them with compositions by Verdi and Massenet that are not often heard.
