The aim of this book is to present basic and advanced mathematical concepts using the graphical and traditional calculator, the TI 92 and the TI 89. These mathematical concepts are commonly taught at some stage of the first three years of college curricula; Analysis (approximations, convergence, differential equations, etc.) Linear Algebra (orthogonality, reduction, etc.). The idea behind this book is totally original and will teach the reader not only all the necessary theorems and examples, but illustrations of the calculator screens and the programs (short versions) will allow the reader to visualize these new concepts directly from the book, or on the calculator, leading to a better understanding through "seeing" and "touching" the mathematical lesson being taught.

This book presents beautiful photos of mathematical models of geometric surfaces made from a variety of materials including plaster, metal, paper, wood, and string. The construction of these models at the time (of Felix Klein and others) was not an end in itself, but was accompanied by mathematical research especially in the field of algebraic geometry. The models were used to illustrate the mathematical objects defined by abstract formulas, either as equations or parameterizations. In the second part of the book, the models are explained by experts in the field of geometry.

Five years ago, I taught a one-quarter course in homological algebra. I discovered that there was no book which was really suitable as a text for such a short course, so I decided to write one. The point was to cover both Ext and Tor early, and still have enough material for a larger course (one semester or two quarters) going off in any of several possible directions. This book is 'also intended to be readable enough for independent study. The core of the subject is covered in Chapters 1 through 3 and the first two sections ofChapter 4. At that point there are several options. Chapters 4 and 5 cover the more traditional aspects of dimension and ring changes. Chapters 6 and 7 cover derived functors in general. Chapter 8 focuses on a special property of Tor. These three groupings are independent, as are various sections from Chapter 9, which is intended as a source of special topics. (The prerequisites for each section of Chapter 9 are stated at the beginning.) Some things have been included simply because they are hard to find else­ where, and they naturally fit into the discussion. Lazard's theorem (Section 8.4)-is an example; Sections4,5, and 7ofChapter 9 containother examples, as do the appendices at the end.

Una dieta vegetariana, o addirittura vegana, sarebbe una soluzione benefica per l'ambiente, oppure metterebbe a rischio l'esistenza stessa dell'umanità? L'impatto ambientale dell'agricoltura intensiva è peggiorato o migliorato rispetto a quarant'anni? L'agricoltura biologica è più o meno ecosostenibile rispetto a quella tradizionale? L'autore, veterinario, agricoltore e allevatore analizza in profondità queste e molte altre domande, per verificare se le proposte dall'attuale ambientalismo siano credibili o meno, e soprattutto realizzabili. In molti casi la risposta è eretica e cioè del tutto opposta rispetto all'ortodossia dominante.
