Sustainable Agriculture Reviews 31: Biocontrol by Eric Lichtfouse
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 516 Pages | ISBN : 331994231X | 26.22 MB

This book presents advanced ecological techniques for crop cultivation and the chapters are arranged into four sections, namely general aspects, weeds, fungi, worms and microbes. Biocontrol is an ecological method of controlling pests such as insects, mites, weeds and plant diseases using other organisms. This practice has been used for centuries. Biocontrol relies on predation, parasitism, herbivory, or other natural mechanisms. Natural enemies of insect pests, also known as biological control agents, include predators, parasitoids, pathogens, and competitors.

Child Protection in England, 1960–2000: Expertise, Experience, and Emotion by Jennifer Crane
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 218 Pages | ISBN : 3319947176 | 3.36 MB

This book explores how children, parents, and survivors reshaped the politics of child protection in late twentieth-century England. Activism by these groups, often manifested in small voluntary organisations, drew upon and constructed an expertise grounded in experience and emotion that supported, challenged, and subverted medical, social work, legal, and political authority. New forms of experiential and emotional expertise were manifested in politics – through consultation, voting, and lobbying – but also in the reshaping of everyday life, and in new partnerships formed between voluntary spokespeople and media. While becoming subjects of, and agents in, child protection politics over the late twentieth century, children, parents, and survivors also faced barriers to enacting change, and the book traces how long-standing structural hierarchies, particularly around gender and age, mediated and inhibited the realisation of experiential and emotional expertise.

Designing for the User Experience in Learning Systems by Evangelos Kapros

While the focus of the UX research and design discipline and the Learning Sciences and instructional design disciplines is often similar and almost always tangential, there seems to exist a gap, i.e. a lack of communication between the two fields. Not much has been said about how UX Design can work hand-in-hand with instructional design to advance learning. The goal of this book is to bridge this gap by presenting work that cuts through both fields. To illustrate this gap in more detail, we provide a combined view of UX Research and Design & Educational Technology. While the traditional view has perceived the Learning Experience Design as a field of Instructional Design, we will highlight its connection with UX, an aspect that has become increasingly relevant.

« À 19h06, le premier camion citerne arrive sur la décharge d’Akouédo, à douze kilomètres du port d’Abidjan, et déverse plus de trente-six tonnes de déchets. Les émanations exhalent l’oeuf pourri, le cadavre très gâté, le concentré d’ail et le mercaptan, la molécule pétrochimique qui odorise le gaz du commerce. L’odeur est puissante, épaisse. La nappe s’étale et atteint très vite le village d’Akouédo…

This is the second edition of a well received book that reviews classical epidemiological and clinical research designs, with a specific focus on aging. Chapters cover basic topics like the scientific method, ethics, and the consequences of certain exclusion criteria. The work also includes a look at clinical concepts like multimorbidity, frailty and functionality. New material includes chapters such as geroscience, health systems research, big data and data mining, financing and future of aging research. The authors reveal the issues and challenges for researchers of age and aging, and also consider, from basic to clinical, and from clinical to public policies of social and health care.

Struggles for Hegemony in Italy’s Crisis Management: A Case Study on the 2012 Labour Market Reform by Daniela Caterina
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 (2019 Edition) | 305 Pages | ISBN : 3319956140 | 5.52 MB

This book investigates the struggles for hegemony, and a possible ‘crisis of crisis management’ at the core of Italy’s political economy. With a specific focus on the conflict over the 2012 labour market reform, the book also explores the country’s trajectory in the area of economic and social reproduction. It presents a framework for critical policy analysis that draws on cultural political economy and explores its potential synergies with complementary approaches such as historical materialist policy analysis and critical discourse analysis. Readers will gain an understanding of crisis dynamics in the aftermath of 2008, and insights into related political reactions. The book will also help them develop the analytical tools needed to make sense of these puzzling phenomena.

Network Intrusion Detection using Deep Learning: A Feature Learning Approach by Kwangjo Kim
English | PDF,EPUB | 2018 | 92 Pages | ISBN : 9811314438 | 8.74 MB

This book presents recent advances in intrusion detection systems (IDSs) using state-of-the-art deep learning methods. It also provides a systematic overview of classical machine learning and the latest developments in deep learning. In particular, it discusses deep learning applications in IDSs in different classes: generative, discriminative, and adversarial networks. Moreover, it compares various deep learning-based IDSs based on benchmarking datasets. The book also proposes two novel feature learning models: deep feature extraction and selection (D-FES) and fully unsupervised IDS. Further challenges and research directions are presented at the end of the book.
