Pure Prairie League is an American country rock band whose origins go back to 1965 and Waverly, Ohio. The band has had a long run, active from the 1970s through the late 1980s and was revived in the late 1990s for a time, then again in 2004. This Dutton Vocalion's complilation features 2 albums on 1 SACD.
1975: With the departure of Craig Fuller, the face (and sound) of Pure Prairie League changed considerably. Larry Goshorn (ex-Sacred Mushroom) has replaced Fuller as the main songwriter in the band. And, while the overall album isn't up to its predecessors, there are still some nice moments including the title track, "Runner," and a humorous tribute to country music legend Merle Haggard.
1976: PPL continues in the same vein as the last LP with only a couple of George Powell tunes bearing any resemblance to the sound of the first two records. Not a bad record, but it's becoming harder to find any traces of what made this band so special.
