Songs from the teenage years of the great Swiss late Romantic composer Othmar Schoeck (1886-1957) from op. 4 and 17 are performed as world premiere recordings in arrangements by conductor Graziella Contratto, interpreted by soprano Olena Tokar. In the late cycle Nachhall op. 70, the Bern Symphony Orchestra once again accompanies song specialist Stephan Genz.
Almost 400 piano songs following in the footsteps of Schubert, Schumann and Hugo Wolf form the centrepiece of the oeuvre of the Swiss late Romantic composer Othmar Schoeck, born in 1886 in Brunnen in the Urschweiz region of Switzerland. The piano and orchestral songs, interpreted at the time by the great song interpreters of the first half of the century, are an echo chamber for his entire creative output. With the early song cycles op. 4 and 17, the teenager Othmar Schoeck enters the concert stage full of self-confidence after his studies with Max Reger in Leipzig. These eleven songs, full of creative poetry and freshness, were arranged for soprano and orchestra by the conductor Graziella Contratto, also a native of Schwyz, as a work contribution from the Canton of Schwyz, and can be heard as a world premiere recording with the Ukrainian-German soprano Olena Tokar.
