In this, the second instalment, the Nightingale's continues convincingly with energetic, precise, yet lively and poetic interpretations of the Holmboe quartets, which stand amongst the most significant contributions to the genre in the 20th century.
"This second instalment of Holmboe (1909-96) quartets by fellow Danes the Nightingale Quartet is a joy – lush, romantic playing, but equally clean and spacious. The works themselves owe a debt to both Bartók and Shostakovich, and to the folksongs of Holmboe’s homeland, which are woven throughout."
