David Darling & Hans Christian - Ocean Dreaming Ocean (2023) [Official Digital Download]

The Recording Academy has announced the 2024 nominees for the Grammy awards in 91 categories. In the category New Age/Ambient/Chant Hans Christian’s latest CD release Ocean Dreaming Ocean (CurveBlue Records) was nominated for a Grammy, along with four other nominees, out of over 175 entries. The 66th annual Grammy Awards will take place February 4th, 2024 where the winner will be announced.

Hans Christian:
“I am deeply appreciative of the recognition by the voting members of the Recording Academy. Ocean Dreaming Ocean is an absolute highlight in my creative career as cellist, composer, and producer. To have had a chance to collaborate with the late David Darling, even if on an ethereal level, was a once in a lifetime gift.

For me, the music straddles the deepest levels of my soul. While working on this music, I keenly listened to hints in David’s raw recordings that could provide building blocks for a greater composition- and there were many! It was my intention that his virtuosity and deep musical vision was enhanced and supported by bringing into focus what was already there, and to fill in, respond, and construct the pieces in a way that would take the listener to a very deep place of sonic delights.

Throughout the production of Ocean Dreaming Ocean I stayed away from trivial techniques. Most of the music was created on cello, either by David or by myself. Some enhancements by guest artists (including the late Ron Miles on trumpet), as well as piano and vocals on one song (by David), plus some sparse morsels like waterphone and whale sounds rounded off the pallet. This album is timeless and I hope that listeners in years to come will enjoy the deep colors of Ocean Dreaming Ocean.”
