"Ex Tenebris" is the classic second album by Norwegian prog legends White Willow, originally released in 1997. It arose after the cast of Ignus Fatuus disbanded. Originally intended as a solo album by Jacob Holm-Lupo, it became a White Willow album when he realized that it was going in a more progressive direction than expected. The recording was done quickly and unpolished, with an extremely limited budget, but there is a certain charm due to the natural drum atmosphere and the feeling of spontaneous recordings of the album. Overall, "Ex Tenebris" became a slightly more reduced, slightly darker album than "Ignis Fatuus". No crooked horns or Renaissance vocal groups, but more electric guitar and synthesizers. The songs range from almost neo-progressive mini-epics such as "Leaving the House of Thanatos", acoustic ballads ("The Book of Love", "Thirteen Days") to obviously Gothic material such as "A Strange Procession" and "A Dance of Shadows". The album has become a kind of cult favorite among the band's fans and was White Willow's first step towards something more independent than the retro-stylized psych-folk of the first album. This new edition has been carefully remastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo himself and will be presented for the first time with the classic original cover on vinyl. This is the second of a total of six White Willow reissues on Karisma Records.
