That fine line between doom and sludge has been confused once again with this gargantuan self-titled debut by the unsigned act from Finland, Frogskin. According to Metal Archives, Frogskin are a sludge band with no room for other, and more accurate descriptions. Whilst I can definitely hear those sludge influences and do not argue the fact that they exist at the forefront of this mammoth band, Frogskin’s inspirations and depictions of the unknown lyrics runs deeper than just that disconnected description. I have read elsewhere that Frogskin are meant to play a hybrid style of blackened doom, intermingled with a thick coating of sludge over the top. This description is certainly more apt than just labelling this mysterious band sludge. They’re most certainly a metal band. There is no need for concern in regards to those who’re afraid to touch “atmospheric sludge”, as it has been dubbed.
