High-Pressure and Low-Temperature Physics

High-Pressure and Low-Temperature Physics by C. W. Chu, J. A. Woollam
English | PDF | 1978 | 597 Pages | ISBN : 0306400146 | 60.6 MB

High pressure science is a rapidly growing diverse fi. e1d. The high pressure technique has become a powerful tool for both the study and preparation of materials. In spi. te of the many high pressure conferences held in recent years, I felt that there was a need for scientists within a well-defined area (not bound merely by the common experimental technique) to meet in an atmosphere conducive to frank exchange and close interaction. In this spirit, the Cleveland State University hosted such a conference from July 20 to 22, 1977, in which the physics of solids under high pressures and at low tempera tures was specifically examined. Both the original and review papers presented at the conference and the candid discussions following their presentations appear in this volume. They clearly cover a rather complete spectrum of current research in the physics of solids at high pressures and low temperatures. I wish to thank the National Aeronautics and Space Administra tion, the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Founda tion for their financial support of the conference. In addition, I wish especially to thank Steinar Huang for his unceasing assistance in arranging this conference. I also wish to thank him and Francis Stephenson for their assistance in preparing this book. C. W. Digital profiling. L'analisi dell'individuo tra metodologie, tecniche e intelligenza artificiale - Antonio Teti
Italiano | 2025 | 167 Pages | ASIN: B0DK2HPGYH | True PDF | 9.22 MB

Digital Electronics and Laboratory Computer Experiments

Digital Electronics and Laboratory Computer Experiments by Charles L. Wilkins , Sam P. Perone , Charles E. Klopfenstein , Robert C. Williams , Donald E. Jones

Science undergraduates have come to accept the use of computers as commonplace. The daily use of portable sophisticated electronic calculators (some of them rivaling general-purpose minicomputers in their capa bi li ti es) has hastened this development. Over the past several years, computer assisted experimentation has assumed an important role in the experimental laboratory. Mini- and microcomputer systems have become an important part of the physical scientist's array of analytical instruments. Prompted by our beliefthat this was an inevitable development, we began several years aga to develop the curricular materials presented in this manual. At the outset, several objectives seemed important to uso First, insofar as possible, the experiments included should be thoroughly tested and error free. Second, they should be compatible with a variety of laboratory computer, data-acquisition, and control systems. Third, little or no previous background in either electronics or programming should be necessary. (Of course, such background would be advantageous. ) To satisfy these objectives, we decided to adopt a widespread high-level computer language, BASIC, suitably modified for the purpose. Furthermore, we have purposely avoided specifying any particular system or equipment. Rather, the functional characteristics of both hardware and software required are stipulated. The experiments have been developed using Varian 620 and Hewlett-Packard 2100 series computers, but we believe they are readily transferable to other commonly available computer systems with a minimum of difficulty.

Electronics: A General Introduction for the Non-Specialist by G. H. Olsen
English | PDF | 1968 | Pages | ISBN : 1489962492 | 39.8 MB

This book has therefore been written for those who want an introductory account of the subject that is qualitative, informative, and is not overburdened with mathematics and circuit analyses. Although it is assumed that the reader has no previous knowledge of electronics, some acquaintance with certain aspects of physics and mathematics must be taken for granted. The reader is expected to have heard of Ohm's law, to be able to manipulate algebraic expressions, to perform very simple differentiations and to know what is meant by a simple integral. The mathematical content has, however, been restricted, but where necessary sufficient instruction is given. (The only exception to this is the section dealing with operational amplifiers.) Partic- ular attention has been paid to the sections dealing with the j-operator and complex numbers in a.c. theory, both of which are extremely easy to under- stand.

Electric Contacts: Theory and Application

Electric Contacts: Theory and Application by Ragnar Holm
English | PDF | 1967 | 503 Pages | ISBN : 3540038752 | 50.9 MB

This book is a completely revised and rewritten edition of "Electric Contacts Handbook" published in 1958. A large number of new in vestigations are considered, and many of the basic theories are revised in detail and even in general. The body of information had to be limited as it was not advisable to increase the volume of the book. In particular, no attempt was made to cover all of the practical applications. They appear as examples following concentrated explanations of basic phenomena. As in several branches of technology, the solutions of problems ari sing in the field of electric contacts involve insight into various disci plines of physics. It is feit that reviews of some of those topics, especi ally adapted to electric contact phenomena, are welcome to many readers. For example, chapters have been devoted to the structure of carbon, the band theory of electric conduction in solids, certain pro blems in statistics, and the theory of the electric arc. As regards arc problems, new ideas have been introduced. In order to make the main text less cumbersome, such reviews are presented as appendices. Throughout this edition, the mksa-unit system is used in accord with the latest recommendation for standardization of units in scientific and technical writings. The chapter "History of Early Investigations on Contacts" forming Part IV in the preceding edition of 1958 has not been repeated in this book.

The Third International Electronic Circuit Packaging Symposium was unique in a number of ways, particularly in its scope and in the approach taken in some of the presentations. For instance, one of the particularly interesting papers was "Design- ing and Packaging Electronic Modular Enclosures That Never Leave the Ground." Here we were shown how a large system console could be packaged to meet the "convenience" needs of the operator. Thus, personnel considerations became impor- tant in the package and one of the determining factors in the design.

Lectures on Nuclear Theory by C. Landau , Ya. Smorodinsky
English | PDF | 1958 | 82 Pages | ISBN : 1489962220 | 10.5 MB

"A real jewel of an elementary introduction into the main concepts of nuclear theory . . . should be in the hands of every student." Nuclear Physics.
This highly regarded volume, based on a series of lectures given by Landau to experimental physicists in Moscow in 1954, offers concise, lucid discussions of a number of the most important underlying concepts of nuclear physics. The authors, both noted Russian physicists, limit their conclusions concerning nuclear structure to those based on experimental data, using only general quantum-mechanical relations.
