In the middle of the night, someone brings Ivan's body home to his wife and his sad-faced, jug-eared son. Ivan's death changes every relationship. Images of paragliders, sun bathers, and opera suggest an expansive, colorful world outside the constricted lives of these characters.

Sat unreleased for 23 years because Wood couldn't pay the lab bill!

Barnaby Fulton is a research chemist working on a fountain of youth pill for a chemical company. While trying a sample dose on himself, he accidentally gets a dose of a mixture added to the water cooler and believes his potion is what is working. The mixture temporarily causes him to feel and act like a teenager, including correcting his vision. When his wife gets a dose that is even larger, she regresses even further into her childhood. When an old boyfriend meets her in this state, he believes that her never wanting to see him again means a divorce and a chance for him.

Mike Waters lives on the street and befriends the somewhat older and streetwise Scott Favor who shows him what is necessary to survive. Waters suffers from narcolepsy and can fall asleep at any moment and in almost any circumstance. Favor comes from a rich family and is rebelling against his own background. They travel together extensively - Waters is driven by the need to find his biological mother - and spend time in Italy. Later in life however, Favor has joined mainstream society and has little time for his old friend.
Based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist is about an orphan boy who runs away from a workhouse and meets a pickpocket on the streets of London. Oliver is taken in by the pickpocket and he joins a household of young boys who are trained to steal for their master. This version of Oliver Twist is topped by Alec Guinness's masterly performance of arch-thug Fagin.
An updating of the Faust legend, with a dash of Fritz Lang's "Der Müde Tod", to a 1950's Paris recreated in vividly abstract expressionistic sets. The film cost a small fortune to make and was virtually ignored on its release, demolished with vitriol by the critics of the Cahier du cinema. Because of that, its reputation is virtually zero. The film is, in fact, a gem of inventive, imaginative, technically stunning filmmaking totally out of reach for most of the New Wave directors.
