Malegaon is one of Maharashtra's big cities, a cloth-production centre that has often become fraught with tension between its Hindu and Muslim populations. Many of the city's inhabitants barely survive on their meagre earnings, so, to escape their harsh reality, its loom workers usually seek refuge in the world of cinema. This passion prompted a group of enthusiasts, led by Shaikh Nasir, to make their own films. They have no budget to speak of but that doesn't stop them from making hilarious spoofs of blockbusters.

In this comedy, set during the Nazi occupation of France, Peter Sellers plays most major male parts, so he stars in nearly every scene, always bumbling in inspector Clouseau-style. As British Major Robinson he is hidden in Madame Grenier's Parisian brothel, right under the nose of the Nazi clients, such as Gestapo agent Herr Schroeder (again him). As Général Latour he leads the French resistance, which includes the brothel madam -made a colonel in charge of her sexy 'troops'- and a priest, and is joined by young US diplomat Alan Cassidy.

Kiyone Sakurai, an apprentice swordmaker makes a sword for his guardian, Kozaemon Onoda. Onoda breaks the sword while defending his lord which eventually leads to his death at the hands of Naito, when Naito demands to marry his daughter Sasae. Sasae vows to avenge her father's death and pleads for Kiyone Sakurai to make a special sword for her. So Kiyone and his fellow swordmaker Kiyotsugu go to the master swordsmith Kiyohide Yamatomori to learn their craft and forge the sword.

The Brother is an alien who has crash-landed on Earth, in New York City. While mute, strongly empathic, and able to fix things, he resembles a Black man with strange feet. His attempt to make a place for himself in Harlem is an allegory for the immigrant experience in the United States. Meanwhile, two bounty hunters from the Brother's home planet arrive and try to capture him.

In this odyssey by the cities of São Paulo, he also leads his wife Zulmira (Gorete Miracles), which part unwillingly, and the donkey Policarpo. On the journey, they find regional peculiarities and undergo magical situations, related to popular belief.
