The Bee Gees Gold, Vol. 1 compiles the group’s biggest singles from their first five years of hit records, beginning with 1967’s “New York Mining Disaster 1941” and ending with 1971’s “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.” Although the compilation isn’t presented in chronological order, it does contains all of their biggest hits (“To Love Somebody,” “Holiday,” “Lonely Days,” “I’ve Got to Get a Message to You,” “I Started a Joke”), making it a fine overview of the group’s first heyday.Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, allmusic.com
