Sofia Diniz was born in Lisbon, where she first studied cello at the conservatory. During her studies in Lisbon, she attended early music courses in Portugal at the Academia de Música Antiga de Lisboa and the Casa de Mateus, where she first came into contact with the historical performance practice of music from the 17th and 18th centuries and with musicians such as Rainer Zipperling , Anner Bylsma, Jaap ter Linden and Paolo Pandolfo learned and was inspired. Her passion for baroque music and instruments brought her to Germany, where she studied baroque cello and viola da gamba with Rainer Zipperling at the MHS in Cologne. This was followed by viol postgraduate studies in The Hague and Brussels with Wieland Kuijken and Philippe Pierlot, which she completed with flying colors.

Sofia Diniz lives near Cologne, from where she travels to various European countries for concerts and recordings with various chamber music ensembles and baroque orchestras such as the Ricercar Consort (Philippe Pierlot), Collegium Vocale Gent (Philippe Herreweghe) and Hespèrion XXI (Jordi Savall). Festivals such as Folle Journée (France), Bach Festival en Vallée Mosane (Belgium) or Utrecht Early Music Festival (Netherlands) are among them, but she is particularly happy when her concert activities take her to her home country Portugal, where she performs with the Ludovice Ensemble, Concerto Campestre or Sete Lágrimas plays in the beautiful churches, monasteries, concert halls and palaces of Portugal.

Sofia Diniz has her own chamber music group - Ensemble ConTrastes - dedicated to the performance of 18th century music composed for and with viola da gamba.
