“Put on your Sunday finest and party like it’s Saturday night,” croons country star Zac Brown on the opening track from the debut album of his pop spinoff Sir Rosevelt. The lyric perfectly captures their sound—a wildly inventive vision of Southern pop that’s inspired by EDM, rooted in country, and produced by Timbaland and Pharrell. While that might sound like a frat boy’s dream come true, Brown, Niko Moon, and Ben Simonetti bring impressive precision (and pointed self-awareness) to this unlikely fusion, making the finished product feel exhilarating and surreal. They even pause to wink at themselves on “Robert Baker,” an absurdist banger with dancehall drums that pokes fun at the club scene.
