His horn concerto, 'A Twilight Song', inspired by Walt Whitman’s war poems, captures the instrument’s dual nature – heroic yet lyrical, battle-hardened yet reflective. From dawn’s call to arms to the hush of remembrance, the work unfolds as a journey through time, memory, and emotion. With nods to Mahler and Penderecki, Koch crafts a sound world where the horn “sings,” the orchestra shadows, and history breathes anew.
