Definitely Maybe is the debut album by the English rock band Oasis, released in August 1994. It became a major commercial and critical success in the UK, following the singles "Supersonic", "Shakermaker" and "Live Forever".
Definitely Maybe immediately after the release hit the top spot of the UK Albums Chart. It was the best-selling debut album of all time in the UK, receiving a 7x Platinum certification (2,100,000+ sales) from BPI. Definitely Maybe marked the beginning of Oasis' success in America, selling more than a million copies, despite occupying only the 58th position on the Billboard 200. The album has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide and received high marks from critics.
The album, along with Blur's Parklife, helped revitalize British rock music in the mid-90s and was liked by critics for upbeat themes that were lacking in the dominant grunge music of the time[. It was a seminal album of the britpop movement and is still considered one of the best albums in music history, appearing on many 'best of' lists. In June 2006, NME named it the best album of all time.
In 2020, Rolling Stone magazine included "Definitely Maybe" in the updated list of the "500 greatest albums of all time", where the album ranked 217th.
