Nizar Rohana Trio’s The MCO Session is an EP that honours the past, embraces the present, and lays the foundation for what's to come.

Led by renown Palestinian oud player and composer Nizar Rohana, The MCO Session is a vibrant reawakening of his acclaimed trio and a bold continuation of his life’s work in maqam-based and modal music.

Featuring Tony Overwater (double bass) and Ruven Ruppik (percussion), The MCO Session captures the trio live in full dynamic form - offering both a tribute and a reinvention. The four-track EP brings together the past and future of the trio’s sound: with a brand-new composition (“Maria”), and reimagined performances of “Emm el Zeinat” (originally from Rohana’s 2008 debut Sard), and “Madar Hijaz” and “Samai Muhayyar” from 2016’s Furat.

“This release is about renewal,” Rohana explains. “It’s a return to the trio format that I’ve long loved, but also a moment of transformation - new players, a new sound, and a new direction. It’s deeply personal, both as a tribute to the late Matyas Szandai - my former trio partner and dear friend - and as a celebration of continuing forward.”
