The brilliant pianist and composer Thelonious Monk is 100 years old this year. It's not enough to say that his music is still alive. With its timeless density, it will never have seemed stronger, more inspiring, more modern. On the occasion of the release of New Monk Trio, Laurent de Wilde's group offers a personal and original reinterpretation of the master's repertoire.
Monk's compositions are rehearsed and arranged for an acoustic shock trio composed of Jérôme Regard on double bass, Donald Kontomanou on drums and Laurent de Wilde on piano. They prove here that its modernity exceeds the limits of time and continues to shake the essential values of music. The only exception to this album's repertoire rule is a composition by Laurent de Wilde in memory of Thelonious, Tune for T, which he plays in solo piano.
