The delusional world of Kate Bush
I begin by telling you that through Peter Gabriel I knowed about Kate Bush (His song Don’t Give Up). But… Why I did buy this LP?: By a musical coincidence. I explain myself, in my time as a student of fine arts in the early 80s, I’d the opportunity to watch a film cycle from Werner Herzog. The film Nosferatu with Aguirre are my favorites (Also the soundtrack by Popol Vuh in these films). I’ll never forget one of the most chilling and at the same time bucolic scene I’ve seen in the cinema, precisely in Nosferatu. Where the city in the evening infested with rats in the street, and in the middle of that river of vermin a dining room with their respective diners having lunch! Surreal! It’s just in that scene that accompanies a solemn and melancholic coral melody that was never erased from my memory and that doesnt’appear in Popol Vuh’s discography …
Years later on a nightly radio show they premiered Hounds Of Love, and when they start playing the song Hello Earth, my skin bristled when I heard that choral piece* of the Nosferatu’s movie as part of the song. The next day I left to buy the LP …

On this work of Kate Bush, I’ll refer to it as a whole and not for their individual songs (As she conceived it). The A side “Hounds of love” and the B side “The Ninth Wave”. Is the music pop or is it rock? Is it synth pop or is it folk rock? Neither one nor the other, is simply a modern variant of progressive-rock and with all the ingredients of the same (Work followed divided into 2 parts), with clear winks to the music of Pink Floyd.
There’re details of over-recordings of dialogues taken from the TV, and if you’ve television memory you’ll notice some characteristic background sounds of the series “Voyage to the Bottom of Sea” of the atomic submarine Seaview (Awesome!).
I adding that I think this album is one of the great ones in Kate’s discography, mixing Irish-folk with pop and rock so playfully and correctly. Undoubtedly, Bush’s influence on the entire litter of post-90s female singers, such as Tori Amos and many more that escape me at the moment. And I summarize that although it’s true, it’s an album with a great pop accent but, it’s definitely far from it, the amount of details and musical textures make it quite complex and not easy to digest.

And my favorite songs: Hounds Of Love, And Dream Of Sheep, Jig Of Life, Hello Earth (Of course!) And The Morning Fog
*Today, I know what that choral piece thanks to the gentle sponsorship of the net, it’s a traditional Georgian folk tune.
