François Lazarevitch - Van Eyck- Der Fluyten Lust-Hof (2021) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

The Fluyten Lust-Hof ("Garden of Flute Delight"), published in Amsterdam in the middle of the 17th century, is a collection of variations for flute solo on the "hits" of European music of the time, borrowed from composers such as Caccini, Dowland, Bull and Moulinié. The works were compiled by the Dutchman Jacob van Eyck, who had been born blind. As a chime player of Utrecht Cathedral, he was later responsible for the entire chime of the city, making fundamental advances in acoustics and bell tuning. Despite this busy activity, he was also a virtuoso on the recorder and played in particular "to entertain the strollers in the garden of the Johanneskirche in the evening with the sound of his little flute". It was probably the repertoire built up in this context that he published under the title Der Fluyten Lust-Hof.
For this recording, François Lazarevitch used instruments that were characteristic of Van Eyck's time: not only the recorder, but above all cylindrical flutes and a musette from the 17th century.
