Fantastic Negrito - Grandfather Courage (2023) [Official Digital Download]

Fantastic Negrito re-imagines tracks from his 2022 album White Jesus Black Problems in a stripped back, acoustic setting on Grandfather Courage. The previous album was inspired by Negrito's search into his own ancestry, discovering that his 7th generation grandmother was a Scottish indentured servant who entered into a common law marriage with an African American enslaved man, defying the race-mixing laws on 1750's colonial Virginia. Negrito channels that love story into an album that bears testament to love's power to stand up against inhumane systems, especially those governed by ignorance, fear, and violence:

"The predicament of my 7th-generation grandparents was based on the notion of the highest bidder. People that wanted the best food, sex, drugs, best cars. Enslavement and indentured servitude both depended on the desire to achieve wealth and mastery over society and its inhabitants. Consumption, greed, materialism, and lies are the fuel to the nasty business of white supremacy."
