Dixieland can be played in very different variations: from the 3-man band consisting of a brass, banjo and bass to the big band, all instrumental combinations are conceivable. A typical occupation, such as in the bebop, where the quintet of trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass and drums was common, there is no Dixieland.

It is reminiscent of small casts like the Louis Armstrong's Hot Five (Tp, Cl, Tb, Bj, P) as well as big ones like the Lawson-Haggart Band (2 Tp, 2 Tb, Cl, Sax, P, G, B, Dr) or even Bob Crosby, who made Dixieland with 14 musicians.

Dr.Jazz performs in the classical lineup with Tp, Cl / SS / TS, Tb, P, Bj, Tuba and Drums. Some flexibility is achieved by the pianist switching to soprano or alto saxophone in some of the pieces, which extends the brass section to 5 instruments. But even the trumpeter can switch to the piano and the banjoist to pick up the guitar. As a result, the band reaches a variety of sounds, which reaches its expression in a variety of arrangements. The fact that the trumpet player also acts as a singer in many pieces completes the broad spectrum of Dr.Jazz.

In addition to the Dixieland classics such as High Society, Copenhagen, Muskrat Ramble or Thats A Plenty, Dr. Jazz's repertoire also includes the original old-time pieces by Jelly Roll Morton (Milenberg Joys, Sidewalk Blues, Wild Man Blues) and Louis Armstrong (Big Butter And Egg Man, Perdido Street Blues, Skid Dat De Dat). The range then extends to Duke Ellington (Mood Indigo, Satin Doll, etc.) and pieces of the swing era.

The repertoire of Dr.Jazz is summarized for the appearances in so-called theme sets. In addition to sets with the typical Dixie classics, sets for the special tribute of composers (JR Morton, Satchmo, Ellingon) or compositions (blues) are played. translate.google
