Danish National Symphony Orchestra - Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht (2024) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

On the occasion of the 150th birthday of the father of musical modernism, we, in collaboration with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Fabio Luisi, announce our plans to record the most extensive edition of Schoenberg's works for and with orchestra that has ever been produced. The project, which will include over ten hours of music, will be released in a loose sequence until the end of the decade. This recording project makes it possible to rediscover a fascinating composer in the overall picture, who concerns us more than ever and whose music touches and enriches us.

The first recording to be released is Schönberg's ravishingly beautiful tone poem Verklärte Nacht, in the revised orchestral version from 1943 created by the composer himself. It is probably one of the Austrian composer's best-known works and is based on a poem by Richard Dehmel, which tells of a loving couple on a bright moonlit night, of devotion, confusion and deep understanding.

The album will be released in digital form today on September 13, 2024, the composer's birthday. The album cover is based on one of Schoenberg's own paintings, which will be continued for the rest of the series.
