    Barbara Polášek begann bereits 1958 zusammen mit ihrem ersten Mann, dem tschechischen Violoncellisten Jan Polásek als Duo zu musizieren. Werke der Violoncello/Klavier-Literatur wurden von ihr bearbeitet. Besonders Continuo - Begleitungen erhielten so einen authentischen Reiz. Die Kombination beider Instrumente erwies sich als sinnvoll, sowohl in musikalischer - ähnliche technische Mittel wie Vibrato, kein Überdecken des Violoncellos durch das Klavier - als auch in praktischer Hinsicht, da es möglich ist, in Kirchen, Schlössern, auf Freilichtbühnen u.s.w., wo nicht immer ein Flügel vorhanden ist, zu konzertieren.
