Acclaimed jazz bassist and composer Andrew Schiller announces his first solo bass album, Rumble Rubble Ripple, set for release on June 6, 2025, via Endectomorph Music. Following two well-received albums as a bandleader (Tied Together, Not to the Ground, 2017 and Sonoran, 2019), Schiller departs from his previous small jazz ensemble format to explore the sonic possibilities of solo double bass. The album, recorded over two intensive sessions, features original compositions, improvisations, and jazz standards that showcase Schiller's masterful command of both traditional and extended techniques. Drawing inspiration from avant-garde, contemporary classical, and American folk music, Schiller intentionally avoided electronics and overdubbing, instead focusing on expanding the acoustic possibilities of the instrument through methods such as double and triple-stops, artificial harmonics, and varied articulation styles. The result is a collection of minimally edited performances that maintain the sophisticated compositional approach of his earlier works while pushing the boundaries of solo bass playing.
