    В основу книги положена рукопись, подготовленная Борисом Исааковичем Ярхо (1889—1942) и хранящаяся в ЦГАЛИ. Время создания рукописи точно не указано. Самое позднее из цитируемых Б.И. Ярхо изданий - книга М. Манициуса - 1911 г.
    Идея издания рукописи принадлежит М.Л. Гаспарову. Сама книга посвящена поэтам Каролингского Возрождения. Ее структура: введение, в котором описано Каролингское Возрождение как с культурно-исторической, так и стилистической и стиховедческой точек зрения; указатель авторов в алфавитном порядке и список литературы о поэтах; 50 переведенных стихотворений, расположенных по жанровому принципу с примечаниями.
