Harnessing the Power of Hydrogen: A Pathway to Sustainable Energy Solutions

This book discusses the role of science and technology in forging a sustainable and harmonious world. It delves into new horizons in healthcare, food security, climate change, energy, sustainable transportation, role of computational and data sciences in sustainability, and mental health and aims to cultivate innovative solutions that benefit both the planet and its inhabitants.

The book analyzes the environmental regulation of upstream marine exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons, at the international, regional MERCOSUR and Argentine national level. It uses the concept of normative integration as a methodological approach, critically assessing the interaction between the law of the sea, maritime law, environmental law and human rights law in the field of study. The book analyses the legal framework in a timeline, giving context to the evolution of the different branches of international law with sparkles of history. In this sense, the book also analyses international conventions’ bills on the subject that have not entered into force. The manuscript focuses on the reports from two marine pollution events (Deepwater Horizon and Montara oil spills) to analyse the lessons learnt and the normative and institutional framework needed to ensure environmental safety in the marine exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons. The book critically analyses marine platform accidents’ official reports comprehensively in order to assess existing normative and institutional frameworks and to give a way forward regarding policies. The manuscript contributes to rethinking the governance of the ocean at the time of environmental challenges. In that context, it refers to the concept of normative integration and effectiveness. It takes the existing scholarship further by introducing the notion of “marine platforms” instead of “offshore platforms” to rethink the relationship between land and sea and to develop a functional approach to enhance existing regulations.

This edited collection of studies brings together a number of internationally distinguished scholars to provide a comprehensive and detailed examination of the usage and function of quotations and citations in political rhetoric in a variety of countries around the globe, including North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Chapters consider quotations and citations as important (at times unavoidable) elements of argumentative and persuasive speech (and writing). They examine quotations, on the one hand, as forms of a direct way of providing evidence to support the speaker’s (or writer’s) arguments, statements, or assumptions, that their speech (or writing) is within an already established larger claim, enabling them to say (or write) something about it with authority. On the other hand, chapters maintain that quotations and citations can be also used as a powerful device to refute them. That is, the speaker will quote something in order to knock it down i.e., use it as a springboard to express doubts regarding the original utterance, to criticize, disagree, or ridicule the speaker, or to present the contradictory position. Contributions to this volume explore aspects related to the manner such quotations take place, the forms and genres of rhetoric that they enable, and their effect, as an important topic for political and social psychologists, as well as for communication and linguistics researchers who are interested in the study of the nature of contemporary politics. With only a handful studies systematically considering such aspects of political rhetoric and behavior, this anthology aims to bridge the gap in this area’s scholarly knowledge, while delving into central features of political communication and persuasion and their effect in present-day societies.

This book focuses on gig work and organising among gig workers in the Indonesian online transport service, situated within the context of widespread precaritisation and digitalisation in today’s world of work. It addresses the challenges experienced by precarious gig workers in Indonesia in articulating their struggles through the discourse of precarity. Such challenges are related to the reproduction of neoliberal-derived entrepreneurial aspirations amidst the historical relative absence of stable work patterns (previously associated with more advanced economies), and the historically rooted marginalisation of broad-based labour movements as a social force. Though showcasing the specific experiences of Indonesian workers, the analysis in this book is supplemented by broad comparative insights. It offers empirically based analysis for those interested in new forms of collective organisations and politics that emerge among workers under the imperatives of neoliberalism in Indonesia, and by extension Southeast Asia.
