The F-117 A has served one purpose extremely well. It has furthered the reputation of Skunk Works as the builder of mysterious secret aircraft. In all fairness, it's a well deserved reputation. The old Lockheed Advanced Development Company, which finally gave up and officially changed its name to Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, has developed and built at least three excellent aircraft (U-2, Blackbirds, and the F-117A) in total secrecy, all below budget and ahead of schedule. It is a truly amazing record.
